Surprise visit with Santa

Christmas is here in two days! The family and I arrived in El Paso with out incident yesterday, and now we’re busily engaged in eating too much, seeing all the relatives and eating too much, and going to church and eating to much and eating too much.

Must have been God who routed our flight down here through Dallas. We have always had our connection through Chicago, but on the 22nd Chicago was closed and hundreds of people in the Madison airport were not able to fly out. I overheard many people rescheduling for several days later.

Today we took the tram up to the top of the mountain and who do you think we saw? Santa was holding court in the gift shop! My kids and all their cousins got to put in their last minute requests and Santa himself told them he’d put the elves on it right away. That was certainly reassuring for them all.

Afterward, we went to Kiki’s, a Mexican cafe and bar in El Paso and had a great meal. Did I mention we’d be eating too much?
